The new President of the CFA, Haris Loizides, presented a plan built around two strategic pillars and sent a clear message:

“With collectivity and transparency, we begin a new era for Cypriot football.”

The Extraordinary General Electoral Assembly of the Cyprus Football Association confirmed the election of Mr. Haris Loizides as President of the CFA for the next two football seasons, 2025–2026 and 2026–2027.

The Assembly was honored by the presence of the President of the Cyprus Sports Organization, Mr. Yiannis Ioannou, UEFA Executive Committee member Mr. Petr Fousek, UEFA Head of National Associations Department Mr. Marios Georgiou, and FIFA Director of Member Associations Governance, Ms. Emilie Doms.

In his first address as CFA President, Mr. Loizides described the current moment as “a new beginning,” setting as his immediate goal the transformation of the CFA’s image and the rebuilding of trust—both with football clubs and with the broader society. He emphasized that the CFA is entering a new era with priorities centered on transparency, institutional modernization, and strengthened collective governance.

Action Plan Based on Two Strategic Pillars

The new President presented to the General Assembly a comprehensive plan for reform and transformation, structured around two core pillars:

1. Institutional and Operational Modernization of the CFA

The plan includes, among others:

-Redistribution of responsibilities across collective bodies
-Activation of committees with measurable goals
-Redesign of the national teams’ strategy
-Targeted development programs to strengthen Cypriot players
-Structured dialogue with clubs to modernize the league system
-Holistic reform of refereeing, emphasizing independence and meritocracy
-Modernization of the CFA Statutes, including the introduction of a two-term limit for the -President to ensure institutional renewal

2. Image Improvement and Trust-Building with Society and Institutions
In this context, the plan provides for:
-Redesign of the CFA Press Office to enhance accountability and transparency
-Strategic partnerships with the state, local authorities, and social stakeholders
-Joint initiatives with the government to prevent and combat violence in sports venues
-Promotion of football as a pillar of social cohesion and economic development

A message of Collaboration and Responsibility

Mr. Loizides outlined his vision for a collective and credible presidency:
“We serve the whole, not individual interests. Football progresses only through cooperation, composure, and institutional coherence.”

Concluding his speech, Mr. Loizides called for time for himself and his team to implement the proposals, goals, and reforms:

“When the time comes, judge us strictly and fairly on the results. Together, we can make our football better.”
